Émile Forest never goes out without his Nikon F3. He captures the defining moments of his present on film. For each one, he takes only a single photograph, which he then pairs with a text. He recounts, for instance, how his friend Olivier, in Rivière-du-Loup, unintentionally finds himself in a house empty of furniture; how Charlotte, in Montreal, overcomes a breakup; and how Fred abandons his painter's studio to become a paramedic. Without seeking it out, Émile becomes a witness to the life pulsing around him. Through his images and stories, his discreet and singular perspective reveals the transformations within our society.

Performance

The exhibition revisits the chronicles recounted on stage, deploying them according to the layout of a signature intended for printing, before binding sequences the pages. Texts, photographs, and covers thus appear fragmented and scattered. The visitor is invited to bring them together to compose a narrative, just as each of us gives shape to our lives from scattered events.
